100 Days - 100 Fire Trucks

A couple of weeks ago when we were really bored, on a whim I asked Briggs to gather up all the fire trucks he could find around the house. I was remembering when Eli had been in kindergarten 100 days and we had to send to school 100 of something. With Eli we sent 100 toy cars, Matchbox car-sized. He had by age 5 more than enough. Remembering that school project, and knowing we had accumulated a lot of fire trucks over the years, I wondered if we had anywhere near 100. With no trouble at all we came up with 68. Not counting books with fire trucks on the cover, video with engines on the case, stamps in our collection, and the really huge trucks in the basement.

Then this evening Libby mentioned that Briggs had a 100 day-100 objects project coming up. So the spontaneous thing of a couple of weeks ago took on a whole new legitimacy! Tonight while I was at rehearsal they gathered up the 68 we had separated into their own box, and went around the rest of the house to come up with 100 fire trucks. Libby said they had more than enough, what with Brio fire trucks, Lego fire trucks, magnets and pictures on the walls in the boys' room. They cleverly arranged all the trucks on the steps from the basement to the first floor. The smallest is about 1.5 inches. The largest (a present from the Steeles a couple of years ago) is about 4 feet long! Here's the photographic proof. Happy 100 days of school!
